Multi-period supply chain design for the distribution of spare parts

Fraunhofer ITWM

In this EU-funded project focus is given to the development of a new system for maintenance and repair of aircraft turbines and truck engines. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification) tags placed in critical components of the vehicle enable access to information in real-time regarding the condition of the parts. This information greatly enhances the planning and performance of maintenance activities. At ITWM research focuses on:

  • mathematical modeling of a supply chain network for the distribution and maintenance of helicopter turbines
  • development of new methods for determining the minimum-cost supply chain configuration
  • decision support for facility location, inventory management and distribution planning of spare parts in multiple periods
