System Level Durability - integrated multibody and durability simulation
Fraunhofer ITWM
Modelling and simulation of a complete mechatronic system (FEM, MBS, controls, …) to analyse motion, load paths (forces) and finally stresses and fatigue of its components.
The first and essential step in a system level simulation is to build the model such that the load path from external system loads to forces acting on bearings and components and finally even to local component stresses is simulated with sufficient accuracy. Using hybrid modelling technologies (FE-MBS combined, e.g. Craig-Bampton) today this can be done for arbitrary transient loading rather than just for static or simple modal load cases.
This system simulation allows analysing and optimizing durability and NVH based on real service loading. Furthermore the system simulations are used to design, shorten and simplify physical component tests.
