AI and the GDPR – Principles to Remember

Abstract:

[nur in Englisch verfügbar]

With the emergence and entry into force of the GDPR, the question of the conformity of applications with the GDPR is increasingly coming to the fore. In the course of this, researchers and developers come into conflict. On the one hand, the aim is to exploit the possibilities of machine and deep learning methods to the full, for which, among other things, new and large amounts of data are constantly required, which may also be person-specific. On the other hand, you get more and more the feeling that you are already in prison with one leg or at least in a legal grey area. This feeling is fed extremely by an uncertainty with new laws, like the GDPR.

In this lecture we want to give a first insight into the GDPR principles which are decisive for Deep Learning. It is not a question of dealing in detail with the explicit legal texts. Our goal is much more to give users of deep learning methods a feeling for what to look out for and where to find help with uncertainties.

The seminar »KL-Regelungstechnik« (Kaiserslautern – Control Theory and Control Engineering) is organized by our department as well as several research groups of the TU Kaiserslautern:

  • Technomathematics (Dep. of Mathematics)
  • Mechatronics in Mechenical and Automotive Engineering (Dep. of Mechanical and Process Engineering)
  • Automation Control (Dep. of Electrical and Computer Engineering)
  • Electromobility (Dep. of Electrical and Computer Engineering)

The seminar takes place at the ITWM every 1st Tuesday of a month (besides holidays and summer break). Aims are broadening of experiences and exchange of scientific views – also beyond the organizing groups.

Typical subjects of talks are:

  • ongoing or recently finished graduations and doctoral theses
  • current research and projects

The topics vary from mathematical methods to technical implementations. Usually, the talks present research results. However, some show open issues for brainstorming and inputs from the audience.
