How we obtain information, shop, learn, communicate with each other, seek medical advice, or use public administration services – digitization is profoundly changing our everyday and professional lives. Everyone must be enabled to move confidently and safely, self-assuredly and self-determinedly in the digital world. The various aspects of digitization are to be highlighted and discussed together with numerous activities. We are participating with a workshop by the EPKI team (decision support for business processes using new AI methods) from our »Financial Mathematics« department on the topic »What Is Artificial Intelligence – and What Can It Do?«[only available in German].

Digitization and artificial intelligence (AI) are terms that are currently popping up in various contexts. At the same time, we find articles in magazines like »Magic or AI?« (14.4.2021 in Die Zeit), which show that our understanding of the terms needs to be questioned again and again. In this workshop, we therefore first clarify the terms »Digitalization and AI« in a roundtable discussion.

We develop a common understanding of the terms »AI – Artificial Intelligence« and »ML – Machine Learning«. In doing so, we address the possibilities and limitations of AI methods. Where do we find AI methods currently already in use? How does such a system actually work?
