Therapy Follow-up Care in Oncology

Project Oncorelief: Digital Guardian Angel for Post-therapeutic Improvement of Well-Being and Health Status in Cancer Patients

Successful treatment of cancer in addition to the actual therapy also requires comprehensive follow-up care. Up to now, follow-up care takes place according to exclusively medical aspects in direct correspondence between physician and patient. However, improving the patient's quality of life, also with the help of his or her social environment, often plays a minor role.

Improved Quality of Life Through Digital Assistance

The project goal of ONCORELIEF is to develop a digital assistance system that supports cancer patients in the post-therapeutic improvement of their health status. This assistant assesses patients' quality of life based on relevant influencing factors and identifies the need for intervention at an early stage. Based on this, the assistant suggests individually suitable measures to the patient, such as fitness exercises or nutritional concepts, to improve his or her well-being.

Comprehensive Data Analysis using Artificial Intelligence

The ONCORELIEF assistance system comprises a mobile application on a patient's mobile device and a central cloud solution. The mobile application enables the patient to document his or her state of health, analyzed the health status and, if necessary, requests suitable intervention measures from the cloud solution. The application relies on innovative visualization and operating concepts as well as modern communication standards. The cloud solution processes these requests by analyzing data using modern artificial intelligence methods and medical reference data. This data is obtained from multiple data sources in a legally compliant manner, prepared for analysis according to medical data models and securely administered. The cloud solution then communicates the analysis results in form of suitable recommendations to the patient’s mobile application.
