EnerQuant – Quantum Computing in the Energy Sector
Workshop on the Project »EnerQuant«
The event will be held on November 22, 2023. For the new Eventpage, click here.
In the wake of great uncertainties regarding availability and prices on the energy markets, there is a high demand for new, better planning and calculation methods for the energy industry, for example for power plant dispatch planning. Not only are existing methods being improved, but new technologies are being considered. Quantum computers have recently received special attention, and not only in research. Due to the rapid development in recent years, as well as their inherent quantum mechanical properties, they have great potential to solve complex problems or those with uncertain data better and faster.
Workshop Finalizes Project and Opens Exchange
In the joint project »EnerQuant: Energy Fundamental Modeling with Quantum Algorithms«, funded by the German Federal Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Action, we are investigating whether and how quantum computing can be used in the energy industry. In the project consortium, experts from the following institutions and partners are researching the application of quantum computing to optimization problems in the energy industry and the development of a quantum simulator:
- Fraunhofer ITWM (department »Financial Mathematics« and the division »High Performance Computing«)
- Fraunhofer IOSB-AST (Advanced System Technology branch AST of Fraunhofer IOSB)
- Kirchhoff Institute for Physics (KIP) at Heidelberg University together
- JoS QUANTUM (quantum computing startup)
At the end of the project duration, the project consortium organizes a workshop on »Quantum Computing for the Energy Industry«, to which we cordially invite you. The aim is to enable a multilateral exchange between researchers in the energy field, with and without quantum computing, as well as users from all areas of the energy market and the energy industry. The event conveys the latest findings from research in lectures and discussions, but also collects feedback and impulses from practical experience.
